Whether you use hair styling tools daily, colour your hair with chemicals, or enjoy drinking in the sun, your lifestyle could be leaving your hair looking dry and damaged. Don’t panic, though! A deep conditioner can help to rescue your strands, giving you shinier, softer, and stronger-looking hair.
At amika, we’re here to explain how to deep condition hair and why a deep conditioning hair treatment may be the hydrating miracle worker you’ve been waiting for.
what is deep conditioning?
A deep conditioning hair treatment is a richer, thicker targeted cream that stays on the hair longer than your typical conditioner.
If your usual conditioner isn’t quite cutting it, deep conditioning is here to bring your hair back to life. Yes, regular conditioners smooth cuticles and improve the manageability of hair, but deep conditioning takes it a step further.
PSA: Here’s a secret from us: even if your hair doesn’t feel damaged, all hair types can benefit from using a deep conditioning treatment to stay healthy and hydrated.
what does deep conditioning do?
Deep conditioning treatments nourish hair more intensely than regular conditioners. Packed full of nutrients to revive and hydrate, these treatments help to rebuild the hair’s molecular layer, leaving strands feeling thicker and rejuvenated.
Whether you’re looking to tackle damage, dryness, or split ends, using a deep conditioning treatment consistently helps to boost your hair health over time.
how often should you deep condition your hair?
We’ve told you the benefits, but how often should you deep condition your hair? It all depends on your hair type!
If you have dry and damaged tresses, use a deep conditioning treatment once a week in your hair care routine.
Lower-porosity or curly hair will benefit from deep conditioning up to two times a week or replacing their everyday conditioner with a deep conditioning treatment.
Even if you don’t have damaged hair or think your hair doesn’t need it, incorporating a deep conditioning treatment at least once a month is highly beneficial for all hair types.
how to deep condition hair
You now know why you need to deep condition your hair, but how do you actually do it?
Always shampoo your hair first as deep conditioning works much better on clean hair. We recommend the kure bond repair shampoo for all hair types.
After rinsing your shampoo, go straight in with your deep conditioning treatment on wet hair (this is the only time we recommend skipping conditioner). Before applying, squeeze the excess water out of your hair to make sure your deep conditioner works effectively.
If you have coarse, dry, or curly hair, apply the deep conditioner from root to tip. If you have oily hair, apply from mid-lengths to ends of hair.
Comb the product through with your fingers or a wide-tooth comb to coat all your strands.
Leave on for 5-30 minutes to give your hair enough time to absorb the nutrients and moisture.
Rinse with cold water to seal the cuticle and lock in the nourishing ingredients.
